Workshop on China’s Energy and Environmental problem in Princeton
Being intellectually involved with China’s energy and environmental problem I have decided to hold a workshop in Princeton, most likely in April 2008, on this topic with participants coming from both academic institutions and government departments in China. The objectives of the workshop are to discuss possible economic and technological solutions (including their implementation) to the problems, to demarcate important areas for future research in this area, and to enable top researchers and government staff members in China to exchange views, among themselves and with Princeton researchers, in an environment conducive to such discussions.
The list of Chinese institutions to be invited to suggest participants to this workshop includes the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xiamen University, the Development Research Center of the State Council and the Commission for Economic Development and Reform. Princeton participants are associated with the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, the Department of Economics and several other departments. I hope that the interactions and exchanges will lead to new knowledge on the subject and, directly or indirectly, to possible improvement in the solution of important energy and environmental problems in China and perhaps in the world.
