The Research Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence Economics (formerly the Zhejiang University Digital Economy Laboratory) is affiliated with the School of Economics, Zhejiang University. Chaired by Professor Miao Jianjun, Dean of the School of Economics, the laboratory assembles top-tier research talents from the school and around the world, striving to build an interdisciplinary research platform of artificial intelligence and economics that leads the nation and enjoys international reputation.
In response to the national artificial intelligence development strategy and the frontier evolutionary demands of economics, the laboratory focuses on the systematic impacts of artificial intelligence on economic operational mechanisms, policy governance models and social structural transformation. It aims to establish a trinity research framework featuring theoretical innovation, technological integration and policy application. Key research areas include: AI-based macroeconomics and microeconomics, AI-enabled industrial organization and labor markets, algorithmic economics, platform governance, intelligent finance, and intelligent regulation.
Centered on the intelligent computing and economic analysis platform, the laboratory integrates large-scale economic data processing systems as well as machine learning and causal inference model tools, promoting in-depth interdisciplinary integration between economics and computer science, management science, statistics and other disciplines. Meanwhile, it actively develops an open economic data center, an algorithm model repository and an intelligent policy analysis system, supporting high-level scientific research innovation, interdisciplinary talent training and national strategic consulting services.
By undertaking major national research projects, producing high-level academic achievements and policy reports, hosting international academic exchanges, and conducting joint research with governments and leading enterprises, the laboratory endeavors to become a key force driving the transformation of economics in the artificial intelligence era, and provides theoretical support and decision-making insights for the development of smart economy in China and across the globe.
